For clinicians & referring providers

For Professionals

We welcome referrals and believe the best outcomes happen when providers work together.

Twofold Counseling provides outpatient individual and couples therapy for teens and adults in Knoxville, TN. We work closely with psychiatrists, prescribing providers, treatment centers, and other professionals to ensure continuity and quality of care for shared clients.

Who we work with

We regularly partner with:

  • Alcohol and drug treatment centers transitioning clients to outpatient care
  • Psychiatrists and prescribing providers managing concurrent medication
  • Primary care physicians who identify patients in need of mental health support
  • School counselors and employee assistance programs
  • Other therapists seeking specialized referral options

Our clinical approach

Our work integrates multiple evidence-based modalities, allowing us to match the approach to the client rather than forcing one framework:

Psychodynamic Therapy
for understanding deeper patterns and character structure
Somatic Experiencing
for clients whose stress lives in the body
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
for attachment and relational work
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
for emotion regulation and distress tolerance
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
for getting unstuck and building psychological flexibility
Gottman Method
for couples navigating conflict, communication, and trust repair
Yoga Nidra
for autonomic downregulation — a guided, supine practice with peer-reviewed evidence supporting reductions in perceived stress, anxiety, and sleep disturbance. Currently used in a group format alongside Acudetox.
Acudetox (NADA protocol)
for nervous-system regulation and treatment engagement — a standardized five-point auricular acupuncture intervention delivered individually or in groups, widely used as a non-verbal adjunct in substance-use and behavioral-health settings.

We are especially well-suited for clients navigating

  • Early recovery and post-treatment transition
  • Anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and self-criticism
  • Grief, loss, and major life transitions
  • Relationship conflict and attachment-related difficulties
  • Emotional shutdown and somatic stress responses
  • Eating disorders and disordered eating patterns

Coordinated care

We believe therapy works best as part of a team. With client consent, we are happy to:

  • Communicate directly with prescribing providers about treatment progress
  • Provide progress updates to treatment centers for continuing care planning
  • Coordinate with other members of a client's care team
  • Participate in case consultation when appropriate

Group programs for treatment centers

In partnership with licensed acupuncturist Hailey Maldonado, Kyle co-leads a combined Yoga Nidra and Acudetox (NADA protocol) group designed specifically for different treatment centers (particularly substance abuse). The session pairs Hailey's five-point auricular acupuncture with Kyle's guided Yoga Nidra — a non-verbal, somatic group experience that complements talk-based treatment and is often well-tolerated by clients in early recovery, when verbal processing can still feel overwhelming.

Currently offered for:

  • Residential treatment programs
  • PHP and IOP settings
  • Community recovery organizations
  • Private practice

Available as a recurring weekly group, a workshop series, or a standalone event. Pricing and logistics are discussed on a per-facility basis. This is our primary way of partnering with treatment centers — to book a group or explore a partnership, contact Kyle or Hailey using the information below.

NPI: 1114807609  ·  Tennessee License #: 9820

Primary intake clinician at Twofold. I work with teens and adults navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and self-criticism, drawing on EFT, psychodynamic therapy, somatic work, DBT, and ACT. I'm happy to coordinate care with referring providers and to support clients stepping down from IOP or PHP programs.

Hailey Ward-Maldonado

Hailey Ward-Maldonado, ADS

Acudetox Specialist

I provide Acudetox in individual and group settings as a somatic intervention to support nervous system regulation and self-regulation. Using the five-needle NADA protocol, I offer a non-verbal, grounded foundation that complements clinical work, and I often pair it with Kyle's Yoga Nidra groups for a “Twofold” approach to restorative care. Please reach out to discuss how these modalities can support your client's treatment plan, I'd be glad to see how I can help.
