Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about therapy at Twofold Counseling.

What kind of issues do people usually bring to Twofold Counseling?

A wide range. Many people come in looking for help with anxiety, grief, or depression. Others feel stuck, whether it's chronic stress, a major life transition, or patterns they can't seem to break. You don't need a specific diagnosis. If something feels off and you want to understand it better, that's enough to start.

Do you work with couples or just individuals?

Both. Kyle works with individuals and couples, and Samantha joins select couples work as her schedule allows. Relationship therapy is a core part of what we do: repairing a bond, working on communication, or figuring out why the same walls keep showing up.

Are your methods science-based?

Yes. We use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for relationship patterns, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for coping skills, and ACT for psychological flexibility. We also view somatic healing as a core pillar. It works directly with the neurobiology of stress in the body. It's clinical rigor paired with human intuition.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra — often translated as "yogic sleep" — is an ancient guided practice done lying down with your eyes closed. You aren't asked to stretch, sit a certain way, or empty your mind. A voice walks you through your body, breath, and attention, guiding your nervous system out of fight-or-flight and into a deeply restorative state somewhere between waking and sleep. A growing body of peer-reviewed research links regular practice to meaningful reductions in stress, anxiety, and sleep difficulty. For a readable overview of the science, see this review in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine.

What is somatic work?

"Somatic" simply means "of the body." The idea behind somatic therapy is that stress, grief, and trauma don't only live in your thoughts — they live in your breath, your posture, the tension you can't explain. So rather than only talking about what happened, we also pay attention to what's happening in your body right now: where you feel tight, where you feel open, what shifts when you slow down. Over time, this helps your nervous system finish responses it didn't get to complete, so difficult emotions become workable instead of overwhelming. For a readable introduction to the science, see this overview of the neurobiology of stress and the body.

Do you work with people in recovery or transition programs?

Yes. We specialize in coordinated care for people transitioning from IOP or PHP programs. We also offer Acudetox (NADA protocol) and Yoga Nidra for addiction recovery support and clinician burnout prevention.

How do I know if we're a good fit?

That's what the free consultation is for. It's a low-pressure, 20-minute conversation where we get a sense of what you're looking for and whether our approach resonates. The right therapist is personal, and we'd rather you find the right match than push something that doesn't feel right.
